Christian Home Educators of Sulphur Springs

Christian Home Educators of Sulphur Springs (CHESS) exists to serve and support families who homeschool their children in and around Sulphur Springs, TX. Our leadership consists of a board of dedicated parent volunteers. There are many benefits to joining CHESS. We sponsor events including holiday parties, park play dates, moms'/dads’ nights out, field trips, book fairs, proms, graduations, and more. CHESS also has a competitive sports program and educational co-op classes.

Co-op

The CHESS Co-op facilitates cooperation among parents to provide educational classes in select subjects for homeschooled students. All classes are taught by parents and a parent from each family must serve as either a teacher or a classroom helper in order for their child(ren) to participate. The CHESS Co-op also gives students and families an opportunity to make and grow friendships. Co-op classes meet once a week for approximately 22 weeks each year. CHESS membership is required for participation.

Sports

CHESS offers competitive sports for boys and girls from elementary through high school. We currently offer volleyball for middle school and high school girls and basketball for elementary, middle school, and high school boys and girls. High school boys and girls are also able to participate in Bass fishing through Triple F Fishing. The sports program is overseen by the CHESS Sports Committee, which is made up of parent volunteers. Student-athletes must be a member of CHESS in order to participate in CHESS sports.

Fine Arts/Academics

A new and growing aspect of CHESS is our Fine Arts and Academics program. Kids who participate have the opportunity to compete against other groups and schools in fine arts and academic competitions. The primary area of competition at the moment is through One Act Play. In addition to hosting a One Act Play festival each year, CHESS theater students also have the privilege of putting on multiple performances for the community through our local theater. We are always looking to add competitions in other areas.

Field Trips/Events

CHESS sponsors get-togethers, events, and field trips on a regular basis. There is always something going on within our organization. We offer events for kids, teens, and parents, as well as those for the entire family. They range from educational opportunities to informal hangouts. Some events cost money and some are free. Keep and eye out for announcements of upcoming events and plan to join in. It is a great way to meet other homeschool families and we are confident that you will have a blast doing so!
